Well here did. President Bush today ordered the Iraq Intelligence Report declassified. The following from Reuters:
Bemoaning an election-year leak, President George W. Bush on Tuesday said he would declassify a secret terrorism document that included a judgment the Iraq war had spread Islamic extremism.
At a news conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Bush said political opponents had disclosed only select parts of the National Intelligence Estimate, a U.S. global report on terrorism, and he decided to make the document public so “you read it for yourself.”
While I look forward to reading the report, I am a bit disturbed that the push to relase the report was purely political, and to respond to Democratic positioning. It is also important to note that, since the report was only just declassified, those in the Democratic Party who originally released select parts of the report had released classified data. Didn’t we just get done with a classified data leak? I hope the liberal media picks up the gauntlet on this one and pursues the Dems as much as they did the Bush Administration of the Valarie Plame leak.
Once we have access to the report I will be sure and post a more balanced view of its content.
