It happened as most of us knew it would. The reclusive megalomaniac who is the ruler of N. Korea has detonated an explosion, and has claimed it was an atomic detonation. The jury is out, but must of the preliminary data suggest it may not be – the initial explosion was below the expected range.

Japan, is understandably up in arms. China, who had formally exerted a small amount of control over N. Korea, is at a loss. The UN has condemned the act, but has yet to come up with a resolution to take action against N. Korea – though UN resolutions are not known for being overly effective – just ask Hezbollah.

The UN must act, and act decisively. There is a growing club, holding countries like Iran and N. Korea who are using atomic/chemical/biological ambitions as a club against the international community. They use these ambitions as a soapbox to spew messages of hate, as in the case of IRAN, or to squeeze sanctions and economic advantages, as in the case of N. Korea.

They use the very act of diplomacy to prolong and strengthen there position; and unless we are able to address this pattern quickly, decisively, and as an international community, we are in for a very long and dangerous road.

And now he is threatening another test…
