Israeli Hostilities?

I found this one on Fox News:

The United States vetoed a U.N. Security Council draft resolution Saturday that sought to condemn an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip and demand Israeli troops pull out the territory.

First, Go Bolton! Keep swinging until the liberals send you packing, you at least are doing some good.

Secondly, someone needs to give the UN a dictionary and have them lookup the word offensive. By no streatch of the imagination is this an offensive. Defensive strike - yes, offensive - no.

Thirdly, what in the heck was the UN Security Council thinking? Did they total miss the fact that Israel is responding to missiles fired at them from Palestine, and failed to note that Gaza is now a haven for Islamic Terrorists? More evidence that the UN is a worthless bureaucracy that dose more to promote instability in the world than limit it. The UN seems under the misguided belief that truth and public opinion are inadvertently linked - well think again.

Bolton sums it up nicely:

U.S. Ambassador John Bolton said the Arab-backed draft resolution was “biased against Israel and politically motivated.”

“This resolution does not display an evenhanded characterization of the recent events in Gaza, nor does it advance the cause of Israeli-Palestinian peace to which we aspire and for which we are working assiduously,” he told the Security Council.

And lets look at the guts of our “allies” in the UN.

The draft received 10 votes in favor and four abstentions, along with the U.S. vote against. Britain, Denmark, Japan and Slovakia all abstained.

The sad state of affairs in the UN is that this resolution would have passed if it was not for the U.S in general, and Bolton in specific. Obviously our touted “allies”, Britain and Japan, lack the guts to do the right thing. On the positive side, even had it passed we could have added it to the long long list of ineffectual UN resolutions - you know, like the ones to stop Iran’s nuclear ambitions, or disarm Hezbolah.

The UN is much more concerned about Israels acts in defending itself than the real problems of the world. Had the UN been effective in the resolutions to stop the aggressions against Israel, then this would not be a problem. Moreover, Israel is showing surprising restraint, in my opinion, in its dealings with its overly aggressive terrorist neighbors.

Palosi to Block Committee appointment of conservative Democrats

If you are surprised by this bit of news, then you probably bought into that whole “more moderate Democratic Party” line too eh? Thats the thing about Democracy — You get the government you deserve.

From The Conservative Voice:

The new Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) plans to block committee appointments that elevate Democrat “hawks” into important chairmanships, according to Insight Magazine’s sources within the Democrat National Committee.

The sources claim that Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA), a six-term member of Congress, who has cooperated with Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee, will be a priority target for Pelosi’s iron-fist approach to leadership.

“Nancy Pelosi wants total party discipline,” a source in the Democratic Party leadership told Insight.

“If you played ball with the Republicans during this session, then you’re not going to be given an important chair in the next session,” said the source.

As the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, Ms. Harman was the logical choice to become chairwoman of the powerful committee. In fact, she was always a strong supporter of national and homeland security and even chastised the New York Times when its reporters published government secrets in their news stories.

But Rep. Pelosi may pass over Rep. Harman, showing preference for either Rep. Alcee Hastings of Florida or Rep. Silvestre Reyes of Texas, the second-ranking and third-ranking Democrats on the intelligence committee.

You may remember Hastings as a Federal Judge who was, in 1989, impeached for bribery and purjury by the very Congress he now is part of. High quality committee leadership from our new Democratic Congress. I look forward to the opportunity to comment at length on the actual appointments.
