Hizbullah Returns to pre-war Strength

For those of you who have any glimmer of hope that the UN remains an effective organization, the following article from the Jerusalem Post may be of interest:

Predicting that it is “just a matter of time” before Hizbullah attacks Israel, a high-ranking officer from the Northern Command revealed to The Jerusalem Post Wednesday that the Lebanese guerrilla group had nearly returned to full strength and was almost at the level it was before this summer’s Lebanon war.

Syria, the officer said, had used the past four months since the end of the war to transfer - sometimes on a daily basis - truckloads of advanced rockets and weaponry to Hizbullah in Lebanon. The weapon transfers, he said, were not even executed covertly, but were conducted “out in the open” for the entire world to see.

For those of you who have forgotten, the last Israel / Lebanon conflict was stopped when Israel agreed to abide by a UN resolution. That resolution (UN Security Council Resolution 1701) included the introduction of UN forces into the region where where support to, among other things, ensure the disarmament of Hizbullah, the blocking of arms transports into the country, and support the Lebanon army in keeping the peace.

We see how well that has worked. So far all UN forces have accomplished since August was to harass Israeli checkpoints and reconnaissance flights. The UN should be ashamed for the state of affairs, and further blood is on the hands of the inept and cowardly French lead forces that making a mockery of job they where sent there to accomplish.

Lebanon has not recovered from the last attack on Israel, yet the radicals among them will not hesitate to start again. When they do, Israel will be within its rights to hammer them again. We can only hope a UN general or two gets caught in the cross fire.

Peace, Palestinian Style

Has anyone ever thought to ask the Palestinian’s to define what the word “Truce” means? I think there must be some fundamental disconnect here.

From The Associated Press:

Israeli troops withdrew from the Gaza Strip as an unexpected truce took hold Sunday, but two major Palestinian militant groups, saying they had no intention of stopping their attacks, fired volleys of homemade rockets into Israel.

The AP is trying despratly to slant this piece of news like they do everything in the middle east. But do not let them fool you - one of the two “militant groups” is Hamas, the very group who runs the government and proposed a truce in the first place.

The rocket attacks by Hamas and Islamic Jihad tempered hopes for a lasting cease-fire, which was meant to end five months of deadly clashes. The rockets landed in open fields and caused no injuries.

It is important to note that it was, again, Palestine which broke the truce, fired the first shot and would have happily taken Israel lives if they where not so hopelessly inept.

The UN needs to stop looking at Israel as the cause of bloodshed and start facing the fact that Israel is showing remarkable restraint, honor, and humanity in the response to these attacks. Every Palestinian death is on the hands of groups like Hamas who understand only the peace of the grave.
